R10
The Audi R10 race car prepared for sports car racing in
the LMP1 class of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and other similar
endurance races was unveiled in 2005 and went on to win
both its maiden race at the 2006 12 Hours of Sebring and
the 2006 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was the first diesel to
win either of those events. The Audi R10 project costs Audi
€70 Million per year and is the most ambitious and
the most expensive project ever undertaken by Audi Motorsport.
The main novelty of the R10 is its engine: a TDI turbo diesel
engine, running on Shell V-Power Diesel. It is a 5.5 L (335.6
ci) all-aluminum bi-turbo 90° V12, with common rail
direct injection of more than 1600 bar (23,206 psi). Its
output is 650 hp (485 kW) (regulated) and 1100 N·m
(811 ft·lbf) of torque, and its usable power band
is between 3000 and 5000 rpm. Its benefits are a broad range
of usable power, high torque and economy. Two Garrett TR3076R
turbochargers limited by the regulations to 2.94 bar (42.64
psi) absolute breathe through two 39.9 mm intake air restrictors.
It uses the latest Bosch Motronic (MS14) management, provided
by Bosch Motorsport, 1600 bar piezo injectors, and makes
a low noise for a race car.
AUDI
R8
Audi
has incorporated the name and the genes of the five-time
Le Mans winner, the Audi R8, into a spectacular sports car.
Three years after the unveiling of the Audi Le Mans quattro
concept car, the production version will be making its debut
at the Paris Motor Show in the guise of the new Audi R8
mid-engine sports model. It is a fascinating driving machine
and the sporty pinnacle of the Audi brand. The mid-mounted
420 bhp V8 FSI engine, quattro permanent four-wheel drive
and Audi Space Frame aluminum body form the basis for truly
outstanding driving dynamics. The Audi R8 will be available
to order from 28 September 2006; first deliveries will be
made in the first half of 2007.
