PHANTOM DROPHEAD COUPE
From the outset, the design team at Goodwood were adamant
that the Phantom Drophead Coup should be more than simply
a convertible version of the Phantom. Designing without
compromise meant that, to a certain extent, we had to start
again, says Rolls-Royce Chief Designer Ian Cameron. Simply
removing the Phantoms roof could have made a great convertible
but it wouldn’t have made a perfect one. With the
Phantom Drophead Coup we had the chance to think about the
very nature of convertible motoring and, in particular,
what it means to Rolls-Royce. Will this magnificent vehicle
attend the Festivals of Speed for 2007, we will keep you
posted.
ROLLS-ROYCE
PHANTOM
While to a high degree machines have replaced people in
conventional automotive manufacturing, the finest quality
work and detailing can only be achieved by hand. However
machines have the advantage over traditional hand building
in their consistency and precision. Combine the two though
– hand-built quality with the intelligent assistance
and quality assurance of the latest technology – and
it is possible to produce a hand-built car that is right
first time, every time. This is one of the things which
makes the Rolls-Royce Phantom such a special motor car.
The Phantom will jettison you from 0-60 seconds in a mere
5.7 seconds (all 19’ of it) with it’s 6.75-litre
V12 engine. Add to that every imaginable luxury that can
be dreamt of and it is easy to see why Rolls-Royce has once
again raised the bar in the automotive world.
